SOME RANDOM JELSA FANFICTION/FANART RECOMMENDATIONS: So, I'm only actually through Part One (and therefore can't yet technically recommend the whole thing), but if you haven't read the apparently-ongoing Jelsa fic "At The Center" by therentyoupay … oh my word. SO INSANELY well-written. It's so well written that I want to die. It's so well written that I officially hate my writing ( more than usual!). I honestly don't know if I feel more inspired or personally attacked by how much my descriptions suck by comparison (attacked. DEFINITELY attacked), but you desperately need to look it up if you haven't read it already.

  • For Elsa—lessons contain phrases like arranged marriages, contain discussions of the complexities of navigating a political world where alliances are built first and foremost on the precious ink that no one is ever willing to share; where the marks on one’s body can sing and screech like a weapon in the wrong hands, wrong minds, wrong kingdom, wrong bargainer; where destiny can be altered as leverage, can be made into sacrifices in the shape of cunning betrothal. A world, where, somehow, there are some words that were never intended to lie, and still the ravenous twist them, taint them, curl them for their own.
    The lessons on arranged marriages are perfectly perfunctory, of course. With things as they are now, her parents would never agree to such a thing. It’s for the best, that her words have not yet appeared; for the better, perhaps, that she should never receive them at all.
    Meanwhile, Jack's words hint that he may or may not possibly be under the divinely destined threat of future jail time.

• Comments: One of the better examples of showing how Jack and Elsa can help each other, and then face uncertainty together, especially since therentyoupay is capable of writing them both completely in character (no completely irresponsible asshole Jack, no stick-in-the-mud coldly sarcastic Elsa). Also contains worldbuilding for the Soulmate Marks AU, Jack adorkableness, Elsa sass, One Scene Wonders from their respective little sisters, and an ending full of fluff and hope.

My personal favorite Jelsa fics are right below.

At the Center - So basically, the common interaction that Jack meets Elsa when she is young is a great idea that runs through the veins of the fandom, and I think this fic is the ideal one that completely fleshes it out. It’s pretty long, I won’t lie, but a lot of the chapters aren’t extremely long and usually I can catch up in under an afternoon. Basically, this is my literal favorite Jelsa fic so far.

recommendation: beyond lost is a beautiful season 2 finale divergent fic rife with spiritual and emotional turmoil between zuko and katara. the best way to describe it is a tragically beautiful story between two people who are irrevocably lost and come to rely on one another, shifting to accomodate the otherworldly location they have found themselves in. the writing is fluid and well-executed and the plot carries along in a surprising crescendo that ends with plenty of heartbreak, but it is well worth the read.
comments: this was one of the first fanfictions i read that made me aspire to be a better writer simply because of the thought that went into the plot. i love how zuko and katara start out and utlimately switch places, how resigned and weighed down katara becomes from being away from the real world. it is just beautiful and i read it over and over again no matter knowing the ending.
favorite quote: She turned away and the image of her bright, captivating eyes was gone. The next time she looked at him the vividness of the blue wasn’t there. To his great surprise, he couldn’t remember what it had been like.

I'm sure every one on the Tahnorra ship have read this, and if you're a new sailor, it is a must-read (And so are the other fics by the same author, I have this headcanon that she's our ship's equivalent of Santa Clause, and it's always Christmas on the SS Tahorra)
